MAZACURE answer

Deck-level design turns the waterline into an architectural plane and makes the perimeter detail part of the visual language. A MAZACURE standard.

1. The deck-level effect

A deck-level pool places the visual water surface close to the surrounding terrace. Instead of sitting below a raised coping, the water reads as a continuous plane within the architecture. The result feels generous, contemporary and visually accessible.

The effect is strongest when paving modules, joints and pool geometry are coordinated. The pool must feel drawn into the terrace, not inserted afterward.

The perimeter is a continuous architectural line.

2. Why the perimeter matters

From above, the overflow boundary becomes unmistakable. A continuous channel can strengthen a rectangle, soften a courtyard or make an irregular form legible. Because the channel travels around the pool, inconsistency is highly visible.

Corners, steps and transitions need the same visual discipline as the long straight runs. The goal is not to hide every technical element; it is to make the perimeter read as one intentional detail.

3. Concealed slot channels

A narrow slot can reduce the visual presence of drainage and keep attention on the water plane and stone surface. This treatment works particularly well with minimalist architecture and large-format paving.

The slot must align with surrounding joints wherever possible. Its colour and shadow line can either blend into the terrace or quietly frame the pool. Wind-blown debris and maintenance access still need consideration, so visual minimalism must preserve direct service access.

An expressed grille can deliberately frame the water.

4. Expressed grille channels

A refined grille is a valid design choice when the perimeter must be clearly defined. Dark or metallic finishes can outline the pool, create contrast with pale stone and communicate where the wet edge ends.

The choice between concealed slot and expressed grille is therefore not simply premium versus ordinary. It is quiet continuity versus deliberate outline. Both can be sophisticated when proportion, colour and alignment are controlled.

5. The water plane at night

At blue hour, the flush surface becomes a large reflective field. Linear deck lighting must direct glare away from the water. Warm light on surrounding walls and planting produces richer reflections than bright underwater colour.

A restrained perimeter glow can clarify the edge for movement without turning the channel itself into the hero. The architecture must remain more visible than the hardware.

6. The AURA perspective

Deck-level pools feel calm because multiple systems resolve into one simple plane. AURA extends that calm into operation: coordinated lighting, feature schedules and clear status allow the owner to enjoy the architectural result rather than think about its separate components.

Our design question is always the same: must the perimeter disappear, frame the water or guide movement? The answer determines the visual character before any finish is selected.

Design Check

  • Can the complete feature be understood from the primary approach?
  • Does the design remain convincing from swimmer, seated and elevated viewpoints?
  • Do daylight, blue hour and night lighting preserve the original architectural intention?
  • Are people able to move, swim and gather without the feature competing with use?
